Dr. Kimberly Hansel

Dr. Kimberly Hansel has worked in education for 25 years. She spent 11 years in the classroom as a full-time mathematics teacher, and 14 years coaching mathematics teachers as well as various curriculum and instruction leadership positions. She is currently the Chief Education Officer and a part-time ABE/ASE mathematics teacher at the Greater West Town Community Development Project. 

Dr. Hansel earned her Educational Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Aurora University, where her dissertation topic explored using open-ended questioning in secondary mathematics. She also holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from North Central College, a Master of Arts in Mathematical Education from DePaul University, a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an Associate of Science in Chemistry from Harper College. Dr. Hansel also served in the United States Army–3 years active duty and 5 years inactive reserves.

She has presented at numerous conferences, including the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics, West Suburban Mathematics Conference, Illinois Computing Educators Conference, Kentucky Mathematics Council Conference, Illinois Education Association Conference, Wisconsin Mathematics Council Conference, Ohio Council of Mathematic Conference, Raising Student Achievement Conference, and will be presenting this year at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

She is currently looking forward to publishing a book about open-ended questioning in mathematics in the next couple of years.
